ONDERZOEKSGROEP MINERALOGIE EN PETROLOGIE

De onderzoeksgroep Mineralogie en Petrologie spitst zijn onderzoeksactiviteiten toe op de geologische informatie die aanwezig is in het materiële gesteente- of mineraalmonster (samenstelling, genese, ouderdom, postformationele evolutie, verwering). Naast mineralogische en petrologische studies vormt ook het geochronologisch onderzoek met methodes gesteund op de accumulatie van stralingsschade een belangrijk element in het profiel van de groep. De onderzoeksthema's zijn zowel fundamenteel als toegepast. De toepassingsvelden van het onderzoek situeren zich in het domein van de natuurlijke bouw- en sierstenen en de archeometrie.

The research group Mineralogy and Petrology focuses its activities on the geological information that can be retrieved from a mineral or rock specimen (composition, genesis, age, postformational evolution, weathering). Besides purely mineralogical and petrological investigations also geochronologic studies with the use of radiation damage methods form an important element in the research profile of the group. The subjects of study are both fundamental and applied. The applications are situated in the domain of natural rocks as building materials and in archaeogeology and archaeometry.
